Scott Bader’s fire retardant system produces composite facade panels for innovative SABIC HQ in Bahrain

For over 40 years, BFG has been a global leader and pioneer in composite design, engineering and manufacturing, with over 2,000 people and 15 production facilities worldwide and a total commitment to quality and innovation.

Scott Bader and BFG International bought together their composite and building expertise to deliver this hugely exciting but complex project.

Design by architect Henning Larsen, The SABIC Jubail Headquarters is a state-of-the-art office complex. The building is an iconic sustainable landmark situated in the New City Centre in Jubail’s Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.

Scott Bader’s Crystic 349E PA, a fire retardant resin, was used with Crystic 76E PA, a low styrene fire retardant gelcoat, to create an FST systems to produce the building’s facade panels. This system can achieve Class A to ASTM E84.

BFG International used Scott Bader’s FST system to produce multiple composite, fire retardant facade panels that join to make a complex, eye catching geometric pattern on the outside of the building.

Scott Bader’s technical service team, involved from the inception of the project, provided application guidelines, external weathering performance data and the FST properties of the products to meet SABIC’s qualification process within the project delivery timelines. The project also had tight supply chain requirements and delivery of close to 1000 tonnes of high performance Crystic and Crestafire products which was successfully executed by the Scott Bader team.

Imran Jamil, project manager for BFG International said “Scott Bader were the perfect partner for this project. Their range of fire retardant systems, alongside their technical expertise, enabled us to produce composite facade panels to an extremely high standard. Thanks to Scott Bader who helped us deliver this iconic project.”
