Scott Bader debuts marine & rail developments at JEC World 2025
Leveraging its deep understanding of customer needs, global market leader Scott Bader will present its latest innovations for the marine and land transportation markets at JEC World 2025.
Advances in its long-established Crestapol portfolio are presenting boat builders with additional time and cost savings. Its new Crestapol 1240 composition – particularly beneficial for bonding bulkheads – avoids sanding and priming ahead of the over lamination process, while also minimising dust generation.
“This next generation over laminating resin will save shipwrights hours of preparation time per vessel,” explains Scott Bader’s Neil Kegg, Business Development Manager for Marine.
“Before over laminating you need to sand down the bulkhead and prep the surface to make sure the resin bonds to the surface. The adhesion with this solution is so strong that the only prerequisite is to make sure the area is clean.
“We have been the market leader in marine composite and adhesive technologies for over 70 years and experience tells us that this will be a very welcome addition, eliminating a very labour intensive stage of the process and delivering significant commercial benefits too.”
In land transportation, Scott Bader is addressing the market need for exceptionally high performing structural and semi-structural systems by proactively collaborating with supply partners in the pursuit of continued innovation. Lending its materials expertise to achieving the most stringent fire, smoke and toxicity (FST) standards, Scott Bader’s joint venture with multiaxial fabrics manufacturer, SAERTEX, is putting several interesting applications to the test. With potential for the resulting glass and carbon fibre reinforced resins to be used for carriage roofs, side panels, flooring and even front nose sections, the new Crestafire LEO systems are more comprehensive than ever.
“We’ve been exploring our complementary solutions for the last five years. Now, with SAERTEX’ track record in mechanical performance and Scott Bader’s fire safety and lightweighting credentials, we’ve arrived at a suite of fully characterised solutions,” says Elena Romanova, Global Market Manager for Land Transport at Scott Bader. “These solutions are designed to support OEMs in achieving lighter weight due to being able to specify much thinner materials that are proven to deliver exceptional performance both in terms of structural integrity and FST requirements.”
Elena Romanova is presenting alongside Steven Bakker, Commercial Director at SAERTEX, during the composite industry’s landmark three-day event. Taking to the stage in the Agora 6 area, on Wednesday 5th March at 10:30, the partners will tackle the theme ‘Sustainable Lightweight Fire-Retardant Solutions for Rail and Land Transport’.
With a focus on providing the market with sustainable solutions, Scott Bader will also be showcasing the product of its partnership with Armacell Engineered Foams. By combining their Crestafire Bio resin with ArmaPET Struct GRX foam core – a finer cell structure made entirely from recycled PET bottles – they have devised a novel sandwich panel for rail flooring that has also been fully fire tested and contributes to improved environmental credentials.
